An Adventure In Old Home Recovery

August 8th Update

Project day five:

First part of the morning was meeting with Anthony to get a more solid look at the joists and girder situation and talk about scheduling the work.
He was very impressed with the amount of work we have already done with the house, including the front porch steps and remediation work on the basement.
Pictures were taken and he’ll get back in touch when he has a contract ready which should be within the week.
We began working on the kitchen again to wipe down the walls with Lysol and Æsa started to use the Safe Strip on one section and an Orange scented compound on another, you know, for science! To see which paint remover worked better.
The jury is still out. We will test them further.
While we were working on the kitchen, the ADT guy showed up and we discussed the installation of a security system. He was very knowledgeable about the service like he should be, but was also not trying to sell me things I don’t need.
And while he was there, Gregg and Heather arrived to give us helping hands with the load of work to be done. Since it was his first time in the house, the grand tour had to be done! (After ADT left of course.)
They both did awesome jobs on the removal of paint from the woodwork. As Æsa keeps saying, “There’s a special place in Hell for people who paint multiple colors over beautiful woodwork.”
We had pizza for lunch from the local pizzeria. My first time trying it… and I would say it’s not bad.
Talk about the idea I have for parking happened, as did talk about how to fix the porches.
A wonderful day with family that had some work on the house thrown in with.
Thank you both! <3
